How Long Does it Take to Grow Weed?

Several factors affect the time weed takes to grow from a seed to a smokable joint. Generally, the life cycle of weed is in two stages the first being the vegetative phase and the last is the flowering phase. The life cycle of weed depends on the weed strain and growing weed indoor or outdoor.

Weed is classified in two strains namely; photoperiod and auto-flowering strain. The photoperiod weed which are sativa and indica strains depend on light to start flowering but the auto flowering- ruderalis- flower at a given stage regardless of the light available. The former take much longer, indica taking 8 to 14 weeks and sativa takes 6 to 9 weeks while the auto flowering strain takes a shorter period of 7 to 12 weeks.

Lifecycle of weed grown indoor varies from that grown outdoor. The vegetative phase of indoor grown weed is much longer depending on the plants genes to last 6 to 14 weeks. The indica strains take up a maximum of about seven weeks while sativa strains a maximum of 12 weeks. The pure strains of sativa however take up to 14 weeks. Exposing indoor weed to about 18 hours of light a day will take 2 to 4 weeks to flower. After the flowering stage, depending on the plant genetic, the indoor grown weed will need 6 to 14 weeks before harvesting.

After harvesting the weed, before it can be ready for smoking, the buds require drying. Drying the buds is very integral for the quality of the weed as improper drying will alter the smell as well as the taste. It takes an average of 10 to 14 weeks to properly dry and maybe a month for curing.
